[STS Tip #1] The Invisible Scam: Fake Mixes

1. Intro: The "Shiny" Trap

Hello, this is Global Steel Insight.

Welcome to the world of Stainless Steel (STS). Unlike the black carbon steel we discussed in Day 1-3, this steel is shiny, beautiful, and expensive.

But there is a trap. Can you tell the difference between Grade 304 and Grade 201 just by looking at them?

The answer is "No." Even experts cannot distinguish them with the naked eye. They look identical, having the same silver shine and smooth surface. However, chemically, they are completely different beasts.

💰 The Scammer's Motivation:
Why do they lie? Because of the Price Gap.
Grade 304 contains expensive Nickel, making it cost significantly more. Grade 201 substitutes Nickel with cheap Manganese. By selling 201 as 304, dishonest traders can pocket a huge illegal profit margin.

2. The Invisible Risk: Low Nickel

The secret lies in the Nickel (Ni) content. Nickel is what gives stainless steel its legendary rust resistance.

Grade 304 (Standard)
Grade 201 (Cheap)
  • Nickel (Ni): Only 1% ~ 4% (Very Low)
  • Substituted with: Manganese (Mn) & Nitrogen (N)
  • Feature: Rusts easily in humid conditions within 1-2 years.
  • Use: Indoor decorations, dry environments only.

3. Our Solution: "Trust the Gun" (PMI Test)

Since we cannot trust our eyes, and MTC documents can be forged, we rely on technology. This is the PMI (Positive Material Identification) test.

Handheld PMI Analyzer Testing Stainless Steel Chemical Composition

▲ We verify Nickel content using an X-Ray PMI Analyzer before every shipment.

Look at the screen of the device. It uses X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to precisely measure the percentage of Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), and Molybdenum (Mo) in seconds. If the Nickel is below 8%, it is NOT 304.

🛡️ Our Promise:
We send you a Video Report of the PMI test with your material. No tricks, just facts.

4. Premium Packing: The Blue Vinyl

Stainless steel is delicate. Unlike carbon steel, a single scratch on the surface can ruin the product's value and aesthetic appeal. That’s why we use standard export packing with PVC / Blue Vinyl protection.
